Idyllic Iowa Irish Fest
The Third Annual Iowa Irish Fest had the best weather and highest attendance ever for its three day run - sunny, a little breezy and just the right temperature. Add to that great Irish and Celtic music on 3 stages, the Trinity Irish Dancers, Irish food and other fair fare, ancient Celtic sports like hurling big rocks and telephone poles as far a one can, lots of Guinness and Harp, a busload of Irish in-laws in town from Chicago and it was QUITE a weekend. I also went to a terrific Irish cooking class where we learned how to make (and sampled) nine yummy dishes including Jameson's sauced ribeyes and Guinness ice cream! Yum! How fun to see thousands of folks wearing green like it was St. Pat's Day. My favorite band of the fest, playing both Saturday night and Sunday, was Gaelic Storm, who had everyone up on their feet dancing and singing gleefully ("I brought the whiskey!" "I brought the light!").
